Community Advocacy

Community Advocacy is for people who are:

  • Receiving secondary mental health services – usually meaning that your care is managed via a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)
  • Psychiatric inpatients requiring advocacy for issues not related to medication or treatment.
  • Wishing to be reassessed by a CMHT for secondary services where their case has been closed with the last three years.

All Health Boards in Wales provide a Community Advocacy service for qualifying patients in their area. At this time, ASC provides Community Advocacy service for people of any age in Cardiff & Vale UHB and Swansea Bay UHB areas.

Psychiatric inpatients requiring advocacy around housing/ domestic arrangements as long as this work does not conflict with the statutory IMHA service that operates in the area.

Referrals

For all Community referrals (including self-referrals) phone 029 2054 0444. Or download the form below and return it to us by fax on 029 2073 5620 or email info@ascymru.org.uk

Please note: People referring themselves for Community Advocacy will be asked to nominate a Health or Social Care Professional who they are happy for us to approach as part of the Lone Working Risk Assessment process.

This does not presume that individuals will pose a risk to our advocates and it does not affect a persons’ eligibility for the service.

Please download our flowchart for more information about this.
