World Suicide Prevention Day 10 Sept 2021

This World Suicide Prevention Day, we are raising awareness of our training programmes that could be vital in saving a life.

Here at Advocacy Support Cymru, our team of experienced, fully accredited trainers offer two courses in suicide prevention: ASIST and safeTALK.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

ASIST is a two day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST is the most widely used and researched suicide intervention skills training in the world. It teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop – anyone can learn and use the ASIST model.

safeTALK: Suicide Alertness for Everyone

safeTALK is a half day workshop that complements the more comprehensive 2-day ASIST delivery and other suicide intervention training programmes. safeTALK is intended to widen the reach of suicide alert helpers by attempting to ensure that thoughts of suicide aren’t missed, dismissed or avoided.

safeTALK is designed for those in the community who need to be suicide alert in their job roles. It can work for organisations that already have ASIST trained helpers in place. It concentrates on linking a person with suicide thoughts with those who have undertaken ASIST and therefore have developed the skills to do a suicide intervention.

Upcoming courses

Our suicide prevention training is available to anyone; healthcare providers, social workers, teachers and those who work with vulnerable people who may be at risk of suicide, as well as carers, family and friends.
